Deep Ellum Now Has Designated Ride-Hailing Zones

(WFAA)

Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – Visitors to Deep Ellum must now use newly designated ride-hailing zones.

Some say that the popular entertainment district “gets crazy” at times and welcome the change. But, a bartender in the area was not happy with the news, saying he’ll feel “like a target,” mostly over concerns about safety while having to walk late at night with all of his tips.

The city now bars Uber and Lyft drivers from picking up and dropping off passengers in the core of the entertainment district … five designated pick-up/drop-off zones will be in effect 24/7.

The six-month pilot program went into affect Thursday; and, for the next 30 days drivers will get verbal warnings if the violated the new rules.  After 30 days, they could be fined.
