FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF)- The Fort Worth SWAT Unit is the first nationally to deploy a non lethal weapon in the field. The BolaWrap is a device the size of a smart phone, that lasso’s a suspect.
“It has a trigger mechanism and a green laser light that will point where you want to shoot it.. press the button shoot it out and it will wrap round the suspects legs and arms,” said SWAT commander Lieutenant Todd Plowman.
The device shoots out a Kevlar coated string with hooks that latch onto their clothing. Plowman said it’s a good tool to have if a suspect is trying to run away or fight an officer. The BolaWrap will shoot up to 25 feet.
