DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) — The City of Dallas and the Police Department are working with the feds to help clean up violent crime areas in Dallas.
Dallas councilwoman Jennifer Staubach-Gates says they are looking at specific neighborhoods.
“Where we have high immigrants and refugees that are vulnerable to crime, that don’t know always how to trust law enforcement. [Criminals] prey on them,” Staubach-Gates said. “So this is another factor for deciding if this is a good neighborhood to work in.”
One of the recently targeted areas was south of 635 at Skillman, due to a high crime rate around a convenience store.
The FBI and the ATF are also involved in the re-tooled project safe neighborhood effort, which Staubach-Gates says is working.
“It’s showing some good results already, and they’ve just been working for a few weeks,” Staubach-Gates said. “And then if there’s crime that’s found that can’t necessarily be prosecuted at a federal level, they’re sharing it with DPD. And then we can take action.”
