“Affluenza Teen” Ethan Couch Released from Jail

FORT WORTH, TX. (WBAP/KLIF News) – Ethan Couch, better known as the “Affluenza Teen”, was released from jail Monday morning.

Couch is finishing his two year sentence for violating the terms of his probation, related to the drunken driving crash in June of 2013 that killed four people. He was 16 at the time.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving put out a statement on Couch’s release saying “Two years in jail for four people killed is a grave injustice to the victims and their families who have been dealt life sentences because of one person’s devastating decision to drink and drive. The 720 days Ethan Couch served for his crimes shows that drunk driving homicides still aren’t treated as the violent crimes that they are. It’s small consolation that Ethan Couch will remain on probation, along with other court-imposed restrictions such as using an ignition interlock on his vehicle, but rest assured MADD will continue to monitor this case to honor the victims of this tragedy and their families.”

His release today comes as his mother, Tonya Couch still sits in the the Tarrant County jail for violating the terms of her bond release.

Tonya Couch is awaiting trial for hindering the apprehension of a fugitive and money laundering related to taking Ethan to Mexico in 2015 after he violated his probation.
