IRVING (WBAP/KLIF News) – More than 35 residents of the Water Ridge Apartments are displaced after a 3-alarm fire heavily damaged several units.
The Irving Fire Department said it started around 9:30 a.m. on Pioneer Drive just south of DFW Airport.
This man was asleep inside his sister’s apartment when a firefighter told them to get out.
“I just woke up because somebody started banging on the door. All of a sudden we see somebody come in and he’s like ‘oh, you have to get out because there’s a fire’ and then we started running,” he said.
He said he and his sister darted towards the door but getting to safety was not easy.
“When we came out there was so much smoke. You couldn’t see anything. I can still feel it in my lungs,” he said.
There were no injuries reported.
Residents said they believe the fire started because of electrical issues but the Irving Fire Department is investigating the exact cause of the blaze.
The Red Cross is working to help residents affected by the fire.
