Dallas, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – A six year old legal battle is settled with Parkland Memorial Hospital agreeing to pay nearly 700-thousand dollars to the family of a mentally ill patient who died after being pinned down in the psych emergency room in 20-11.
State regulators would later say the action was illegal and dangerous. The suit was brought by the estate of George Cornell.
The incident occurred when the hen 49-year old Cornell struggled with emergency room staffers, after running to a fire station out of fear he was being watched. Cornell suffered from schizophrenia and heart ailments.
The incident happened amid a series of patient-care failures at the facility.
