Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – Civil-rights activists say American Airlines is moving in the right direction with a plan to train employees to identify and combat bias; but, the NAACP is still warning African Americans about flying the friendly skies.
The organizaiton says it won’t lift the travel warning in order to make sure the airline follows through with its promises. Back in October national NAACP officials issued the following warning after accusing the airline of mistreating black passengers.
“The NAACP for several months now has been monitoring a pattern of disturbing incidents reported by African-American passengers, specific to American Airlines. In light of these confrontations, we have today taken the action of issuing national advisory alerting travelers—especially African Americans—to exercise caution, in that booking and boarding flights on American Airlines could subject them disrespectful, discriminatory or unsafe conditions. This travel advisory is in effect beginning today, October 24, 2017, until further notice.
Last week, American unveiled a multi-part plan to train all 120-thousand of its employees next year to identify and stop discrimination. Corporate officials say they plan to set a new standard of diversity and inclusion.
