Haltom City, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – Heart-wrenching moments for a Haltom City father when stranger grabbed his toddler outside their home. The incident occurred during a regular household chore of taking out the trash for Hector Alverez and his 2-year old.
Alverez told The Star-Telegram that he was holding his son’s hand walking from the curb back to their house when a stranger tried to snatch the toddler.
“I had grabbed his hand and we were going back inside the house,” Alvarez said in Spanish in a Thursday telephone interview. “Then this young guy comes out of nowhere and grabbed his arm. I never saw him coming.”
In what quickly became a tug-of-war for the child, between the father and the wanna-be kidnapper, Alverez was able to get him back. He struggled as he yelled for a a neighbor to call the police, a which point, he said the stranger took off into a nearby creek.
Officers showed up with a k-9 unit, but didn’t find him.
The suspect is described as an Hispanic male 5′ 5″-TO 5’5″ , with a thin build, with short short facial hair.
Anyone with information should call police at 817-222-7061.
