
(WBAP/KLIF) – The Texas Department of Public Safety has released the name of the State Trooper who was shot and killed on the job Thursday afternoon near Fairfield. 41-year-old Damon Allen was a 16-year veteran of the force, and leaves behind a wife and three children.
The suspect in the trooper’s death has been captured after a brief standoff with authorities in Waller County. Around 7:25 pm, the Waller County Sheriff’s Office Facebook account posted that the suspect, 32-year-old Dabrett Black, was spotted, and shots were fired between him and authorities. A SWAT team swarmed the wooded area nearby, and Black was reportedly captured by a K-9 unit in a nearby field around 8:45 pm.

A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper was reportedly shot and killed Thursday afternoon in Freestone County about 90 miles southeast of Dallas along I-45 near Fairfield.
Word first came in Thursday from a tweet from the Navarro County EMS.
Multiple law enforcement agencies across Texas have identified the suspect as 32-year-old Dabrett Montreal Black of Lindale, Texas. He is described as a black man, 5’11”, 175 pounds who may be driving a gray Chevrolet Malibu with Texas Plates JDN-4273.
Governor Greg Abbott and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said in a statement that he is saddened to hear of the trooper’s death.
