Ex-Dallas Assistant DA Issues Statement Following Firing

UPDATE: A former Dallas County District Attorney who was fired after a recording of her cursing out an Uber driver went viral has apologized.

Jody Warner said she feared for her safety when the driver, Shaun Platt, did not drop her off at her home.

Platt said Warner gave him bad directions and that her threats against him made him uneasy, which is why he said he called the police.

Warner gave a tearful explanation of her actions Tuesday morning and said the situation may have been a misunderstanding between she and the driver, Shaun Platt, but that her years of prosecuting sex crimes has made her edgier than most.

“Anyone that knows me that and is not also a prosecutor or a defense attorney knows that I handle things a little differently. My friends that are not lawyers know  that when we go places that I am always on edge,” she said.

Warner said that Platt put her in a potentially dangerous situation when he asked her to get out of the car during the altercation.

“That would have been a different story right? Or if I gotten hit by a car or been dragged behind a dumpster. I don’t want accuse him of things and I can’t say what’s in his heart. But he accused me of things that are not true,” she said.

Former Dallas County Judge Elizabeth Frizell defended Warner and said that it was important to note that Platt had recanted allegations that Warner had physically assaulted him as well.

“I don’t think that was appropriate for him to accuse her of touching him or assaulting him in any way and I think that’s why he backed off that statement,” she said.

Warner was believed to be intoxicated at the time of the incident but was not charged with a crime.

Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – In reaction to being fired after her much talked about profanity-laced rant at an Uber driver, ex-Dallas DA Jody Warner (pictured left: issued a statement to ‘Good Morning America’:

“I cringe whenever I hear or think about the things that I said that night. It was unacceptable, and no one deserves to be called names. That being said, the audio doesn’t tell you that I was in a situation that made me feel very uncomfortable and I became defensive and eventually angry. I NEVER assaulted my driver or touched him in any way. All I wanted to do was get home safely that night.”

An audio recording Warner’s tirade and refusing to leave the driver’s car surfaced over the weekend.

District Attorney Faith Johnson says that Warner has since been terminated, saying “Warner’s says warner’s behavior is contrary to her office’s integrity and won’t be tolerated.”
