Cumulus Employee Starts Fundraiser for Puerto Rico Hurricane Victims

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — An employee of Cumulus Media in Dallas has started a GoFundMe page to raise money to send generators to Puerto Rico hurricane victims.

Hurricane Maria hit the island in September, which left millions of people without power. Frankie Martinez works in Cumulus Dallas’ sales department and has family in Puerto Rico — he said what he wants to do is restore normalcy to Puerto Rico, meaning things we take for granted here in the U.S.

“Everything is a struggle and there is very little normalcy, and the only normalcy people find is when they have the generators on,” Martinez said. “They can have a load of power, they can power up their cell phones, they can sometimes get some internet.”

The goal for the “P1’s Power Up Puerto Rico” initiative, which is shared by our sister station 1310 The Ticket, is $15,000, but Martinez said any donation amount helps.

“Anything that anyone can help with — if we can get five, ten, 15, 20 generators going, or 30, that’d be great,” Martinez. “I think those are homes that can get a little bit more normalcy.”
