Richardson Toddler Who Went Missing for Weeks Laid to Rest

RICHARDSON (WBAP/KLIF News) — Richardson three-year-old Sherin Mathews has been laid to rest one week after the medical examiner positively identified a body found in a culvert half a mile from her home.

The funeral was private because, according to the family’s attorneys, they wanted to focus on Sherin’s future in heaven rather than her death on Earth. Through the attorneys, the family says they appreciate the thoughts and prayers that have been pouring in over the last several weeks.

Her adoptive mother was in attendance, along with other close family and friends. Her adoptive father Wesley Mathews was not, given that he is still behind bars facing a felony charge of injuring a child.

Sherin Mathews went missing early Saturday, October 7th, with her father initially saying he put her outside as punishment for not drinking her milk. He later changed his story to police, telling them he watched her choke on it and removed the body from their home.
