DALLAS, TX (WBAP/KLIF/News) – The parents of Sherwin Matthews were in court this morning to try and regain custody of their other child. A Judge at the Henry Wade Juvenile Justice Center in Dallas ruled that for now the child will stay in CPS custody.
The couple’s 4 year old biological daughter was removed by Child Protective Services, from the Matthews home, after 3 year old Sherwin went missing and her father, Wesley Matthews was arrested for child endangerment.
The girls’ mother, Sini Matthews has not been charged. A condition of Wesley Matthews’ bond is that he can’t have contact with any minor child.
Rafael De La Garza is Wesley Mathews’ criminal attorney and says a hearing between CPS and the family will now be next month because Matthews needs proper representation by a civil attorney.
De La Garza says Mathews is mourning the loss of a child — the mother’s attorney says she’s distraught.
A new hearing date has been set for November 13th. Meanwhile, Richardson Police are waiting word from the Medical Examiner’s office to find out if the remains of a child found Sunday, are that of the missing toddler.
