Federal Bureau of Prisons Under Fire for Reportedly Not Evacuating Beaumont Prisoners During Harvey

BEAUMONT (WBAP/KLIF News) –  Concern is growing from some state and local leaders about prisoners who reportedly were never evacuated from federal prisons in Beaumont during and after Tropical Storm Harvey.

The Prisoners Legal Advocacy Network’s Paul Holdorf  said prisoners are suffering from sub-par conditions.

“Prisoners who are in fragile health, especially those who are diabetics have a real concern with environmental conditions like the lack of air conditioning and having food and medicine in the right quantities at the right time,” he said.

Holdorf said it’s a serious issue that never receives attention because of the subjects are behind bars.

“People don’t think about prisoner’s until tragedies happen,” he said.

Texas Congressman Lloyd Doggett contacted the Federal Bureau of Prisons and asked for clarification on what is being done to protect the prisoners’ well being.
