Fort Worth Opens Shelters for Harvey Evacuees

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News) — The City of Fort Worth says it’s opening shelters for Harvey evacuees and is ready to take in about 1,000 people, if necessary.

A wave of evacuees is expected to arrive sometime Tuesday morning by bus. They’ll be routed through the Wilkerson-Greines Athletic Center and will either stay there or move to another local shelter.

The city has also dispatched 30 fire department officers to Houston to help with rescue efforts, as well as a Medstar ambulance that’s awaiting assignment in San Antonio.

A Fort Worth School District official says they’ll also be taking students into their classrooms.
