DALLAS, TX. (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas Cowboys star Running Back, Ezekiel Elliott was notified by the NFL today that he will be suspended without pay for the first six games of the 2017 season, for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.
In a statement released today, the NFL said “Over the course of the last year, the league conducted an extensive investigation. League investigators interviewed more than a dozen witnesses, including Ms. Tiffany Thompson, who had alleged multiple instances of physical violence in July 2016, and Mr. Elliott. The league also consulted with medical experts. League investigators examined all available evidence, including photographic and digital evidence, thousands of text messages and other records of electronic communication.”
WBAP Sports Director Steve Lamb said though Elliot did not face criminal charges other incidents he’s allegedly been involved in show a pattern of misconduct.
“That incident in the Dallas bar a few weeks ago where a man’s nose was broken. The St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Dallas where there’s a video of him pulling down a woman’s top. The NFL is just not going to have their players acting like that,” he said.
Lamb said the NFL is making a statement.
“Six games…they’re sending a message…we want you guys to be boy scouts on and off the field,” he said.
The reaction from Dallas Cowboys fans throughout the Metroplex was swift with many standing by the popular running back.
“I think it will get appealed. I think he’ll probably get two games. Six games…I don’t think Jerry Jones will allow that especially with all the money he has,” said Patrick Smith.
“I think it was kind of absurd because it’s been going on for over a year. I don’t know why it’s taken this long to get it resolved,” said one fan.
Elliott has the right to appeal the decision. If he does not, the suspension will begin September 2nd. The NFL says Elliott can participate in all preseason games and practices and will become eligible to return to the team’s active roster on Monday, October 23rd.
