DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — The Red Cross says they’re experiencing a critical blood shortage and need more people to donate.
Jan Hale is with the Red Cross — she says they were already low on blood before summer came, which is typically a slow time of year when it comes to blood donations.
“Blood supply can be like a phone battery — when it goes all the way down, your phone dies, and it has to be recharged. That’s kind of where we are,” Hale said. “We’re in the recharging stage and rebuilding our supply.”
To encourage people to donate, the Red Cross is offering $5 Target gift cards to anyone who donates between now and the end of August.
“It’s just a thank you,” Hale said. “We realize this is a difficult time for people. We want to say thank you and maybe urge that one person or a couple of people who were on the fence and thinking ‘Well, do I need to take the time?’ Perhaps this will [help them] make that donation appointment and roll up their sleeve.”
