Study: Most Applicants Lie on Resumes

DALLAS, Texas (WBAP/KLIF) – A new study shows the number of instances of people lying on resumes is up. Careerbuilder says 85% of applicants have lied on their resume in the past year. That’s up from 66% five years ago.

Jim Whiddon, a workplace expert, says the reason many lie is because they get away with it. “When a lie is told that is so big that no one would believe you would tell that lie, it usually works,” Whiddon says.

He says that employers have started looking deeper into what a candidate claims on his or her resume. However, Whiddon says if an employer really likes a candidate, they’re more likely to overlook inconsistencies.
