DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — A 30-day special legislative session begins today in Austin, where lawmakers will try to power through 20 bills Governor Greg Abbott has made a top priority.
Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick told the Chris Salcedo Show it’s worth the extra taxpayer money to get some of these bills passed.
“Every one of these 20 is supported overwhelmingly by Republicans,” Patrick said. “Almost every issue by 50 percent or more Democrats — not necessarily the office holders, but the voters.”
He says the reason they’ve been forced to call a special session because a large number of bills, including the controversial bathroom bill, died in the house during the regular session earlier this year.
“This is all about, quite frankly, the house,” Patrick said. “Not the members, but the speaker being against a number of these issues.”
The special session will begin at 9:00 Tuesday morning.
