Dallas Mayor Rawlings Reflects on July 7th Police Ambush

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – One year after the Dallas police ambush, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings is among many reflecting on that night.

Rawlings had just come back to Dallas after attending the funeral for his mother-in-law when he was alerted to the unfolding tragedy.

It is something the mayor describes as hyper-real.

“What you thought could happen actually has happened,” said Rawlings. “It’s not out of the realm when you think about the tragedies that could take place.”

The mayor though does not believe significant events like July 7th, 2016 changes people.

“I really believe that you live your life in a certain way and in moments of crisis are just a spotlight that everyone sees how you’re living,” said Rawlings.

The morning after the ambush at an interfaith service in Thanksgiving Square, Mayor Rawlings called for faith hope and love. He says that remains strong one year later.
