DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — The Russian attempt to influence last November’s Presidential election found its way to North Texas.
The department of homeland security provided a list of 600 possibly suspicious IP addresses to look out for ahead of the election. Dallas County election officials say they found 17 of those 600 attempting to access their servers, and a handful of them were Russian.
“The only two areas that they were looking at for possible tampering with was voter registration system or our website,” said Toni Pippins-Poole, the Dallas County Elections Administrator.
Poole says voters did not lose any votes or personal information, and that they should feel confident their votes are safe in Dallas County.
But if the Russian hackers — or any of the foreign hackers — had succeeded, the outcome could have been detrimental.
“It would delete some of our records, try to show that some of our voters are not registered,” Poole said. “Or, it would get into information, because we have a lot of private information — names, addresses, date of birth, driver licenses.”
