DPD Investigating Possible Hoax Following Lockdown

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — A bomb squad was sent to the Dallas Police Department after a suspicious package was found Monday.

Employees were asked to move to one side of the building until notified otherwise and citizens inside the building were asked to leave.

Assistant Police Chief Randy Blankenbaker said a mail courier saw a suspicious looking bottle filled with a clear liquid and notified building security. The bottle had a note attached to it, but Police have not said what the note read.

“The note was attached in such a way that it caused further suspicion,” said Blankenbaker. “That got us to a point where he felt we needed to act upon it.”

Dallas Fire Rescue Hazmat teams and a bomb squad were sent to the scene.

“It was determined that the item was not explosive in nature,” said Blankenbaker. “So Hazmat conducted an analysis of the item and determined that the clear liquid inside the bottle was actually water.”

Normal business resumed at Dallas Police Headquarters just after noon. Police are investigating the incident as a possible hoax.
