Golf-Ball Size Hail , Water Rescues Reported as Severe Storms Sweep Through North Texas

MESQUITE  (WBAP/KLIF News) – Golf-ball sized hail was reported in Mesquite as severe thunderstorms swept through North Texas early Friday evening.

Flash flood and Severe Thunderstorm warnings were issued for parts of Dallas, Kaufman and Rockwall counties.

WBAP’s Christian Powers was near Highway 80 and Galloway Avenue in Mesquite during the storm.

He said the storm caused ponding in some areas and brought a heavy wave of hail.

“The hail was falling like the rain. It’s crazy how much hail we got here,” he said.

Dallas Fire-Rescue reported experiencing a high volume of 911 calls involving cars stalled in high waters.

The department’s Jason Evans said the callers were in varying degrees of distress.

“The level of water in which the vehicles were tapped ranged in height from 2 feet to vehicles reportedly being fully-submerged with passengers on top of them,” he said.

Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue throughout the weekend.
