DENTON (WBAP/KLIF News) — The airport in Denton suffered some significant damage because of strong winds early this morning.
The City of Denton says around 15-20 airplanes were damaged, with some of them flipped over, and that 15 other structures were affected.
“Obviously aside from all the planes found upside down and a couple of airplanes going through fences and whatnot, I found out my Tahoe had one of the hangar doors on top of it,” said BusinessAir pilot Ken Edmondson.
In addition to the door, the exterior of one hangar had portions ripped off, as did the roof. It took two forklifts to lift the hangar door off of the aforementioned Tahoe, before it could be driven off and the door was laid on the ground. Edmonson said he saw at least six planes flipped over.
Wind speeds at Denton Airport reached higher than 60 MPH.
“We were fortunate that most of our clients’ aircrafts don’t appear to be affected, so we expect business to continue as usual for BusinessAir,” Edmondson said. “Flight schools will probably have enough additional aircraft to continue what they’re doing as well.”
