DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — The Dallas Fire Department and the Assist the Officer Foundation hosted a blood drive Friday morning at the downtown La Madeline restaurant in honor of the paramedic who was shot in the line of duty Monday.
Members of the department say the amount of community support, from blood donations to monetary offerings, have been overwhelming.
“We have a great community of people who just really support us,” said Dallas Fire and Rescue chaplain Ray Schufford. “Even when situations like this happen, it’s like a major outpouring, times ten, with the number of people coming up saying, ‘I’m praying for you.'”
William An was shot helping another shooting victim on Monday. He is recovering but suffered traumatic blood loss and is facing a long road to recovery, according to doctors.
Friday’s blood drive ran until around 1:00 pm.
“Anytime you can donate anything, especially blood, to help somebody survive or live, it’s awesome,” Schufford said. “So many times in situations like An, when losing so much blood and other people losing blood as well, it’s always good to have a lot of that on reserve to help out.”
