Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – Former Texas State Senator Wendy Davis says she may consider another run for public office. Davis spoke to students at SMU Wednesday, encouraging women to enter politics.
Davis served in the Texas Senate from 2009 through 2014. She lost to Greg Abbott in her bid for governor in November of 2014. She has since launched a non-profit, Deeds not Words,
Before meeting with students at SMU, she met with reporters and said she did not have a timeline when she might make another run for public office.
“I would love to run again,” she says. “I’m very committed to Texas and changing the landscape in Texas.”
Davis did say she doubts she would run as early as 2018.
“I want to feel like it’s a role that’s right for me to potentially play for the people who live in this state,” she says. “Time will tell.”
Davis talked to the crowd at SMU that more women should enter politics, telling them women have fought for “bits and pieces” to gain equalization at every level. She says affordable child care helped her run, and she relied on birth control and health care from Planned Parenthood.
