New CDC Survey Allows North Texans to View Regional Health Trends

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — A new set of data from a Center of Disease Control survey allows North Texans to see health trends and risks where they live.

Donald Schwarz is from the Robert Wood Foundation, which partnered with the CDC, and says Dallas performs well in a few areas.

“Fewer people binge drink, and fewer people have high rates of cholesterol,” Schwarz said of Dallas’ health trends. “More people are getting mammograms, and more people are getting routine doctor visits.”

He did say, however, Dallas under-performs in a few areas as well.

“Dallas has more challenges around smoking and people getting enough exercise, and with the two of them, Dallas has high rates of obesity and people who don’t get enough sleep,” Schwarz said. “Of the 13 health outcomes listed, in 11 of them, Dallas performs worse than the average for the state of Texas.”
