MELBOURNE (WBAP & KLIF News) — Three of the four Americans killed in a small plane crash in Australia had Texas ties.
The plane crashed in Melbourne, where Greg Reynolds De Haven, Russell Muntsch and Glenn Garland were on their way to play golf. The pilot of the small charter was also killed after reporting a catastrophic engine failure.
“There was nothing left. It was a horrible sight,” one witness told our media partner WFAA-TV. “Cars were on fire. We did try to get to the fuselage, but it was just too hot. Tires were exploding. We thought there were gas bottles were exploding, and the flame of the fuel was just so hot and intense.”
De Haven was a former FBI Agent, and Garland was an Austin-based entrepreneur. Muntsch co-founded the Muntsch Hardt Kopf & Carr Law Firm, which has an office based in Downtown Dallas as well as Houston and Austin.
Family members of De Haven and Muntsch confirmed via public Facebook posts the deaths of the three Texans. Garland’s death was reported by The Sun Herald, an Australian newspaper.
