A longtime North Texas Sheriff has been found dead in his home. The Stephenville Empire Tribune reports Erath County Sheriff Tommy Bryant died from a self inflicted gunshot wound. The paper says Bryant’s death comes less than one week after news broke that he was under investigation by the Texas commission on law enforcement for allegedly cheating on his continuing education training.
Bryant had been the sheriff in Erath county since 1997, he was re-elected in the March Republican primary. Bryant gained national attention during the Chris Kyle murder investigation and trial.
