Lake Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – A five alarm fire has damaged 38 units at a boat and RV storage facility in Lake Dallas. The fire at Motor Coach and Boat Storage started around 8 am Thursday.

Callers to 911 reported smoke coming from the area near Main Street and North Hook Street in Lake Dallas. The first firefighters called for help from eight other departments.

“It’s pretty crazy. Nothing like this ever happens in Lake Dallas,” says one person who lives near the warehouse. “When you wake up and see 15 fire trucks, it’s kind of nerve-racking.”

Crews formed a perimeter to contain the fire to a single building at the storage facility.

“Fire crews out here did a great job,” says Denton County Emergency Services’ Jody Gonzalez. “It take a lot of resources to deal with a fire this size.”

Gonzalez says crews faced an obstacle responding to a fire at a facility with many small rooms. Each room was locked with a different key, forcing firefighters to pry open locks.

“That slows us down,” he says. “It’s not like you can just open a door like a business or a house to get in. Each one of these had their own padlocks.”

No one was hurt. Crews stayed at the facility into the afternoon to put out any spots that might flare up.
