Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – Former Texas Governor and ex GOP Presidential candidate Rick Perry sashayed through the first round of elminations on season 23 of ABC’s “Dancing With The Stars” Tuesday night….and he’s got the fans to thank for it.
Perry and dance partner, Emma Slater, earned a 22 out of a possible 40 from the judges for their Quickstep to the TV theme of Green Acres. An improvement over last week’s score of 20, but it still put them at the bottom of the leaderboard. It turns out the former politician can still “get out the vote” and may be considered a fan favorite. Perry and Slater earned enough votes to make them the second couple saved from elimination and move on the the next round.
The DWTS Judges gave mixed reviews, Bruno Tonioli said it was catchy…like a bad cold. Carrie Ann Inaba disagreed with Bruno, “I thought it was so much fun, I smiled the whole time, you didn’t miss a step…you’re not quite artistic yet but you were perky and efficient.” Judge Len Goodman also seemed to like it “It’s a heck of a journey from politician to ballroom dancer and a bit like the tractor what you needed was a bit more polish, but well done.”
The big smile on the Governor’s face showed he was having fun and was happy with his performance, after which he ran out into the audience and planted a big kiss on his wife Anita.
