Dallas, Tx (WBAP/KLIF NEWS) – It’s official, Former Texas Governor Rick Perry is trading in his quest for the oval office for the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy. Texas’ longest serving Governor is joining the season 23 cast of “Dancing With The Stars”…making Perry the first presidential candidate to appear on the dance competition show.
The full cast for season 23 was announced this morning on ABC’S “Good Morning America”. As for casting the 66 year old former GOP Presidential Candidate, Executive Producer Rob Wade says “Heading into an election season we wanted to represent the political world.” Perry is paired with 27 year old five-time pro dancer Emma Slater.
He’s not the first Texas politician to appear on the show. In 2009 House Majority Leader Tom DeLay was paired with Cheryl Burke on season nine. He left the show after a few weeks due to foot problems, but did return to dance on the finale.
Other cast members include Dallas’ own Vanilla Ice and Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte. The new season of DWTS begins September 12th.
