Justin (WBAP/KLIF News) – Two people suffered minor injuries Thursday morning when a school bus was hit by a car near Northwest ISD’s Gene Pike Middle School.
Police say a car appears to have pulled in front of the bus. Northwest ISD says the bus was carrying about 50 kids.
“We notified parents immediately; we’re appreciative, as well, for the support from our local responders,” says Northwest ISD’s Emily Conklin. “We’re very lucky that nothing serious happened today.”
Across Texas, school started this week. Conklin urges drivers to watch for buses as they resume their routes.
“It’s not out of the norm to be fine-tuning our bus routes and fine-tuning transportation that first week of school,” she says.
The bus was carrying sixth through eighth graders who attend the school. Conklin says the school would work with kids who might have been on the bus or friends with someone on the bus.
“We’ll just be making them aware that accidents can happen, and this is how it’s handled,” she says. “They’ve got someone they can talk to if they’re scared, if their friend was there.”
