FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News) – Drivers headed west on North Loop 820 will now exit earlier to reach Interstate 35W.

The $1.4 billion reconstruction of I-35W runs from downtown Fort Worth to Highway 287.

Drivers using the ramp from westbound 820 to 35W will exit to the right to go north and left to go south.

Press release from the North Tarrant Express:

On Monday, May 9, the new direct connector from westbound I-820 to northbound I-35W will open. This new direct connector is located prior to the existing exit, and is part of a split exit for both northbound and southbound I-35W. Drivers heading northbound will exit right; drivers heading southbound will exit to the left.

As part of this activity, contractors will close the exit from westbound I-820 to southbound I-35W from Sunday, May 8 at 9 p.m. until Monday, May 9 at 5 a.m. Traffic will be redirected to FM 156.  “This new direct connector is in a different configuration than drivers are used to, so we strongly encourage caution through this area,” said Heather DeLapp, regional public relations manager for North Tarrant Infrastructure, the project contractor.

This work is part of the $1.4 billion North Tarrant Express 35W project. This includes a section that is currently ranked number six on the state’s most congested roadway list along 6.5 miles of I-35W from north of I-30 to north of I-820 including the I-35W/I-820 interchange in Fort Worth. The project includes the reconstruction of main lanes and the addition of TEXpress managed lanes.

Drivers are encouraged to “Know Before They Go,” and visit www.northtarrantexpress.com for upcoming closures. To view detour maps, please visit the Alternate Route Map page of our website.
