Officer-Involved Shooting in Irving

Irving BadgeIRVING (WBAP/KLIF News) – Police in Irving are investigating after a suspected robber and hostage taker was shot and killed as he left at a cash advance store, according to a media release.

Officers were called to the store near Highway 183 and Esters around 1:00 p.m. Friday.

The hostage was not hurt.

The Irving Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred today, January 29, 2016, at approximately 1:04 p.m. in the 4100 block of W. State Highway 183. The Irving Police Department received an alarm call from Cash Store. An officer was in the vicinity of the call as it was being dispatched. Additional officers arrived at the scene. A suspect, armed with a handgun, was observed inside the business. The suspect abducted a hostage and exited the building heading toward a vehicle in the parking lot. Officers confronted the suspect as he was forcing the hostage into a vehicle at gun point. Two officers fired their service weapons, striking and killing the suspect. The hostage was safe and unharmed. The identity of the suspect is being withheld pending identification by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office.
