Robbie Hoy: 5/22/15 Everyone needs to slow down

I drive a lot. Whether it’s for work or on my personal time, a nice 30 or 45 minute drive clears my head and can be relaxing.

I made a right turn onto a busy street with the closest car to me being at least 75 yards away. The driver got right on my bumper for about a quarter of a mile and then swerved into the left lane, passed me and swerved across three lanes of traffic to get into the right lane. When we got up to the stoplight, the driver rolled down her window and started giving me the bird… you know the finger. She was also screaming at me and saying things that would make a sailor blush.

I’ve noticed this kind of thing happening much more often and I can’t really figure out why. Why is everyone in such a hurry to be someplace? Why can’t you just relax and get to where you need to be without getting so angry at every other driver on the road?

Not all of us are in a huge hurry to be somewhere. I like to think of myself as a good driver. I don’t speed (too much) I use my turn signals and I watch out for other drivers. But if someone accidentally cuts you off or isn’t driving as fast as you’d like them to be, do you really need to hang halfway out of your car and call them names?

Wherever you need to be isn’t that important and it’s not worth getting into an accident and hurting yourself or someone else. I ask that when you’re out today, please slow down. And enjoy your drive!
